Zoe Saldana Receives Congratulations from James Cameron After Golden Globe Win
At the recent Golden Globe Awards, Zoe Saldaña celebrated her win for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Netflix film Emilia Pérez. Backstage, she shared a special moment when she revealed that she received a congratulatory text from acclaimed director James Cameron.
"I was sitting in the audience and I received a message from James Cameron who is somewhere in New Zealand right now, editing Avatar: Fire and Ash. And he, after all these years, believes in me. That to me just nourishes my desire to continue growing as an artist," Saldaña expressed.
She noted that it is filmmakers like Cameron who have been a significant influence in her career journey. "I’ve been in this industry for 25 years. For a moment, I transitioned from being a dancer to an actor. I was in my late teens and early twenties, not knowing what was ahead of me. What I’ve witnessed is that I’ve always been employed. I’ve always had good human beings and undeniably talented filmmakers believe in me and bet on me and trust me consistently,” she said.
Speaking about her age, Saldaña remarked, “I’m 46. A couple of years ago, I was considering plan Bs. Should I start a homestead, planting a garden and baking to become the sexiest soccer mom in my mind? But the truth is, I’m an artist through and through, and I need to create every day. If not, I don’t know what I’ll do.”
Saldaña emphasized that her creativity allows her loved ones to see the best of her. She expressed her gratitude to filmmakers such as Jacques Audiard, stating that their belief in her has been invaluable.
Emilia Pérez premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May, where it won the Jury Prize and a Best Actress ensemble award. Alongside Saldaña, the ensemble included Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and lead star Karla Sofía Gascón. The Netflix film went on to secure wins at the Golden Globes for Best Musical or Comedy Feature, Best Non-English Language Film, and Best Original Song for “El Mal,” totaling four awards.
During her acceptance speech, Saldaña acknowledged her fellow nominees in the Best Supporting Actress category, showing her support and appreciation for their talented work.
