Thomas Bangalter's Humorous Ticket Purchase to His Own Daft Punk Show

Published January 19, 2024

Thomas Bangalter, one part of the legendary electronic duo Daft Punk, shared a playful anecdote where he once bought a ticket from a scalper to a Daft Punk show, a performance he was headlining. Bangalter was grabbing a sandwich when approached by the ticket seller and decided to purchase the ticket, finding the situation amusing. He chose not to reveal his identity and went to the venue to wait and experience the show as any other fan would have.

Living With Anonymity

In an interview with the French news channel Brut, Bangalter reflected on the double-edged sword of anonymity. Their concealed personas allowed them freedom and protection, but also led to isolation and, in some cases, even more attention than they intended to avoid. After two decades behind the mask, Bangalter felt the anonymity that helped them convey their message had served its purpose, noting odd situations where people would apologize for the lack of photos to preserve their privacy.

New Musical Ventures

Bangalter has been actively involved in various musical projects following Daft Punk's disbandment. Recently, his musical talents were showcased as he composed the soundtrack for a film titled DAAAAAALÍ, with Ed Banger Records set to release it. Directed by Quentin Dupieux, whose better-known DJ name is Mr Oizo, the film is anticipated to premiere on February 7.

Bangalter also contributed to the 'Chiroptera' opera's soundtrack, a collaborative work with artist JR and choreographer Damien Jalet, and released an orchestral soundtrack for the 'Mythologies' ballet in April, honoring the historical significance of orchestral ballet music.

Moving forward, fans of Daft Punk were treated to a special anniversary edition of 'Random Access Memories', unveiling an unreleased collaboration with Julian Casablancas as well as a unique drumless edition of the album.
