Eurovision on Tour Brings Stars, Costumes, and Kitsch to Brisbane

Published November 6, 2024

Brisbane often downplays its achievements. For every Olympic cheerleader or Bluey enthusiast, there are countless locals who remain indifferent.

However, it’s important to highlight this: Dami Im finished second in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Second. At Eurovision.

The Logan-based artist's near victory in Sweden with her hit Sound of Silence, which became a global sensation, is now eight years behind her. Yet, her performance remains cherished by Eurovision fans, and Im is excited to share her music once again during the Eurovision on Tour event in Europe and Australia.

"It’s truly thrilling to share the stage with so many other Eurovision stars and legends," Im shared. "We come from different years, so I've never met any of them in person, but I know them from television and YouTube. I can’t wait to experience their performances and perform alongside them."

Known as the “Freaky Queen,” Senhit, an Italian-Eritrean pop star, is widely loved among Eurovision fans, having represented San Marino in 2011, 2020, and 2021. Credit: Eurodrama Entertainment Group

"It’s going to be wonderfully chaotic," she added.

This concert marks a groundbreaking event as it is the first touring show in Eurovision's long history.

Attendees can look forward to seeing 18 former contestants perform their beloved competition songs live. There will also be a fan zone featuring famous stage props and outfits, including the iconic glittering ensembles and silver platform boots worn by ABBA in their legendary 1974 performance of Waterloo.

Im will share the stage with three Eurovision winners: Carola from Sweden (1991), Emmelie de Forest from Denmark (2013), and Linda Martin from Ireland (1992).

Other notable performers include 17-year-old Silia Kapsis, representing Cyprus this year; Senhit; Efendi from Azerbaijan; Esther Hart from the Netherlands; Jalisse from Italy; Nicki French from the UK; and Sunstroke Project from Moldova.

Im expressed her excitement about seeing Destiny from Malta, who won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 with her hit Not My Soul. "She was such a powerhouse, and I remember being captivated by her performance and rooting for her."

According to the local fan group Aussievision, Australians are among the most passionate Eurovision fans worldwide, ranking seventh out of 92 countries for ticket purchases to events (with Sweden at the top).

Im noted that Eurovision fans are incredibly supportive. "I feel such encouragement from the Eurovision community both globally and in Australia. Whenever I release new music or go on tour, they always spread the word and are excited. They are truly a wonderful group of people."

Dami Im reflected on her unforgettable Eurovision experience, which remains Australia’s best performance in the competition. "It was the most intense moment of my life—full of glitz and glamour, but also an incredible amount of tension and nerves. I knew I had to give my best, and I’m still thrilled about it."

Eurovision on Tour takes place at the Tivoli on Wednesday, November 13.
