Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Honor LA Wildfire Victims at 2025 Grammys

Published February 3, 2025

During the 2025 Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars delivered a heartfelt performance of ‘California Dreamin’ as a tribute to those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Their version of the classic song was stripped back, allowing the emotional weight of the moment to resonate deeply with the audience.

The performance followed a powerful video presentation that showcased the impact of the wildfires on the LA community, making the tribute timely and poignant. Gaga and Mars were already nominated for Song Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their collaboration ‘Die With A Smile’ when they announced a special tribute for wildfire victims prior to the ceremony.

Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of the Recording Academy, confirmed that despite the challenges posed by the wildfires earlier in the year, the ceremony would continue and would also serve as a fundraising event for those affected.

After their performance, Lady Gaga accepted the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Bruno Mars. In her acceptance speech, she made a powerful statement supporting the trans community. She declared, “Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you.” This message echoed the evening's themes of support and resilience.

Earlier in the event, Gaga shared the music video for her new single ‘Abracadabra’ during a commercial break, building excitement for her upcoming album ‘Mayhem,’ which is set for release on March 7.

The evening also celebrated other artists, with Beyoncé winning Album Of The Year for ‘Cowboy Carter,’ marking her first win in that category. Kendrick Lamar emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home five awards, including Record of The Year and Song Of The Year for ‘Not Like Us,’ which also earned the Grammys for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, in addition to Best Music Video.

Overall, the night was a blend of honoring musical achievements and addressing the real struggles faced by the community, summarizing how powerful music can be in both celebrating life and offering support in tough times.
