US-Based Duo Esquare Clarifies Conflicts With Nigerian Artist Portable

The music industry often witnesses misunderstandings and the recent conflict involving US-based musical duo Esquare and Nigerian singer Portable is one such instance. Members of Esquare, Dr. Fortunate and Prince, have stepped forward to clear the air regarding allegations of an altercation with Portable.

Portable, a Nigerian vocalist, had accused the American duo of physically assaulting him after a disagreement escalated during preparations for a music video shoot. He alleged that an attack by over 40 individuals resulted in a broken leg. However, Esquare vehemently denied these accusations, explaining their side of the story to correct what they perceive as misrepresentations circulating in public.

The duo recounted that their initial agreement with Portable involved a N2.5 million collaboration deal, with N1.5 million paid upfront. After Portable delivered his part on the sent beat, Esquare made necessary modifications and looked forward to shooting the accompanying music video later in the year.

When scheduling conflicts arose, Esquare attempted to rearrange the video shoot to accommodate Portable's US tour, proposing to film in Houston, Texas. This plan was, however, declined by Portable's manager. Eventually, a new date was set but Portable cited the distance to the shoot location in Ogun State as a hindrance and did not show up on time.

Direct communication with Portable led to the duo catering to his additional demand of N1 million, which was over and above the previously agreed amount. Despite delivering the extra funds and transporting the artist from Ogun to Lekki for the shoot, tensions flared when Portable's behavior became erratic and talks of the extra payment brought threats of violence against Esquare.

Esquare emphasized their commitment to professionalism and expressed their frustration with the process. They also made it clear that the purported violence took place in a rented venue and not their residence, refuting any claims of beating Portable. The duo hopes that this explanation sheds light on the incident and corrects the misconceptions spread by viral videos and rumors.
