Bridgetown Comes Alive with Tuk Band Performances on Christmas Day

Published December 26, 2023

In the vibrant streets of Bridgetown, the festive spirit was in full swing this Christmas, even though shops remained shut. A throng of tourists from the arrival of several cruise ships on Christmas Day was treated to a unique showcase of Barbadian culture. Despite the usual quiet of the season, Bridgetown was anything but silent, as the city resonated with the captivating rhythms of traditional tuk bands.

Cultural Revival in the City

In a delightful break from the past, where Christmas and Boxing Days witnessed minimal activity, the celebrations this year were different. The National Cultural Foundation put forth a cultural extravaganza, enabling four tuk bands to perform across the city. Bands like Drummers Federation, Pantuk, BNH Panside, and Pompasettas played at multiple locations, infusing The City with authentic Bajan Christmas cheer and directing tourists towards Queen's Park for the timeless Christmas Morning In The Park event.

The Allure of Live Performances

The lively performances captivated both pedestrians and tourists in rented vehicles who paused their travels, enticed by the music. Visitors were seen enthusiastically snapping photos, mesmerized by the festive atmosphere. The cultural showcase brilliantly succeeded in not just entertaining the guests but also in energizing The City's ambiance during the holiday season.

In an impressive logistical feat, vessels like Jewel of the Seas, Norwegian Viva, Viking Sea, and Zaandam all docked in port on the holiday, while Ambition, Island Princess, and MSC Seaside were set to join the following day. This influx of visitors provided the perfect audience for the vibrant cultural display orchestrated by the National Cultural Foundation.
