Tyler, The Creator Emerges as Top Artist-Songwriter in Q3 2023 with Multiple NMPA Certifications

The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) has recently announced its top songwriters for the third quarter of the year, with special recognition given to the most accomplished artist-songwriters and non-performing songwriters from July through September 2023.

During this period, the NMPA Gold & Platinum Program awarded a grand total of 1,793 certifications, celebrating the success of songs that have reached critical sales and streaming milestones.

Standing out from the crowd, renowned rapper and producer Tyler, The Creator clinched the title of top artist-songwriter. He earned an impressive 17 certifications, highlighting his considerable influence on the music scene. Among the recognitions were a 5X Platinum for the hit EARFQUAKE, a 4X Platinum for See You Again, and a Double Platinum for NEW MAGIC WAND.

Known for his diverse musical talents and roles, Tyler, The Creator first made waves with the emergence of the hip-hop collective Odd Future, which he co-founded in 2007. Since launching his debut mixtape, Bastard, in 2009, Tyler has crafted six full-length albums, encompassing genres such as alternative hip-hop, neo-soul, and jazz rap. His albums Flower Boy and Call Me If You Get Lost have brought him critical acclaim, with the latter winning a Grammy.

Outside the recording booth, Tyler continues to attract a massive following, boasting over 31 million monthly listeners on Spotify and in excess of 5 million YouTube subscribers. He's also made his mark in fashion with his streetwear brand, Golf Wang, and left an imprint in the world of filmmaking, where he directs music videos under the pseudonym Wolf Haley.

Apart from Tyler, the NMPA's Gold & Platinum Program honored Jon Brion as the standout non-performing songwriter, who amassed nine certifications for his collaborations on tracks such as Small Worlds, Ladders, Hurt Feelings, and Come Back to Earth, all by Mac Miller. Jon Brion's songwriting contributions are published by Kobalt.

The NMPA Gold & Platinum Program runs in conjunction with the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) Gold & Platinum Program, both of which aim to recognize the talented individuals behind the music that achieves significant sales and streaming success.

By accounting for Gold (500,000 units), Platinum (1 million units), and Multi-Platinum (2 million units or more) achievements, these programs mark the significant impact that songs and their creators have in the music industry.

Since its inauguration, the NMPA program has acknowledged countless songwriters for their musical contributions. Notable past recipients include Lin-Manuel Miranda and Luke Combs, alongside other illustrious names such as Beyoncé, Juice WRLD, and Kanye West.
