Elton John Brings Humor to the 2025 Golden Globe Awards
Elton John took to the stage with Brandi Carlile at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, where he showcased his charming sense of humor while referencing his ongoing eyesight challenges.
The 77-year-old music icon, known for his remarkable contributions to the music industry, teamed up with Carlile, 43, to present the award for Best Original Film Score. The award was given to the talented duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their work on the film Challengers, which features a vibrant electronic score.
Before announcing the winner, Elton lightened the mood with a comedic remark about his eyesight, an issue he publicly disclosed in July of the previous year. He humorously reassured the audience, saying, "There's been a lot of stories going around about my regressive eyesight, and I just wanted to reassure everybody that it's not as bad as it seems."
Continuing with his playful tone, he made a faux pas by referring to Brandi as his co-host, pausing to deliver the punchline, "Rihanna!" This joke elicited laughter from the audience, prompting Brandi to maintain her composure as she proceeded with her part of the presentation.
Brandi spoke eloquently about the emotional impact of film scores, explaining how they create a profound connection with audiences through music.
At the conclusion of their presentation, Elton and Brandi announced that the award went to Reznor and Ross for their acclaimed score for Challengers. Reznor, known for his evolution from a rock band frontman to a celebrated film composer, embraced Elton, who has also composed for notable films like The Lion King.
Elton attended the ceremony donned in a classic black tuxedo paired with a black shirt, while Brandi dazzled in a cream-colored tux with a stylish shawl lapel, layered with a matching vest to complete her look. Elton was accompanied at his table by his husband, David Furnish, whom he has been with since 1993. David looked sharp in a tie-free black tux.
During the event, Brandi was seated alongside her wife, Catherine Shepherd. The couple has been together since marrying in 2012.
