Mana Moana Concert unites Choirs in a Cultural Symphony
The Spark Arena was alive with the resonant voices of the Signature Choir alongside the majestic New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on Friday, November 24, 2023, for a unique celebration of Pacific heritage. In a display of unity and cultural pride, the Mana Moana concert showcased folk songs from the vibrant islands of Samoa, Cook Island, Fiji, Niue, Tokelau, and the Kingdom of Tonga.
Cultural Harmony through Music
Composed of members from diverse Christian denominations and Pasifika communities, the Signature Choir shared the stage in a dynamic representation of ecumenical collaboration. As the Catholic singers joined voices with those from Presbyterian, Methodist, AOG, Seventh Day Adventist, Mormon, and Congregational EFKS backgrounds, it was a true testament to the power of music in bringing together people of different faiths and cultures.
Wellington to Auckland: A Choral Connection
Wellington's representatives in the Signature Choir, including prominent figures from various local congregations, brought their musical and cultural expertise to Auckland. The choir featured music directors from both the Pacific Island Presbyterian Church, Newtown, and the Catholic Parish of Wellington South. The 50-strong Wellington contingent aligned with 30 Auckland singers to form an impressive 180-member choir.
A Night to Remember
The concert was received with overwhelming enthusiasm by an audience of over 7000 people from all across Auckland and beyond. The arena buzzed with energy as attendees danced and cheered, marking the evening as a monumental display of Pasifika pride and a true celebration of shared humanity through the universal language of music. The exclusivity of the event, with tickets quickly selling out following the success of the previous year's Wellington concert, made it all the more special for those fortunate enough to attend.
