Published January 19, 2024

At only 18 years old, South Korean cellist Han Jae-min is not only making waves for capturing top accolades at prestigious music competitions, but he is also stirring excitement with his upcoming role as artist-in-residence at the esteemed Lotte Concert Hall. His stellar achievements include first prizes at the 2022 Isangyun Competition and the 2021 George Enescu International Competition, feats that herald his arrival as a noteworthy talent to be watched.

Rising Star Takes Residency Stage

As the youngest musician to receive the title of artist-in-residence at Lotte Concert Hall, Han Jae-min is slated to perform at least two notable recitals this year. The anticipation surges for his Solo Cello Recital on March 27, expected to be a high point of the year's musical calendar. Following this, he will enchant audiences again at a Trio Recital on October 30.

An Evocative Solo Evening

Han Jae-min's artistic vision will come to life on stage as he performs solo pieces that vividly showcase the cello's allure. The centrepiece of the March recital is Zoltan Kodaly’s Sonata for Cello Solo in B Minor, a piece close to Han's heart. Supplementing Kodaly's work, he will render compositions by John Williams, Gaspar Cassado, and Gyorgy Sandor Ligeti, promising an evening rich with the cello's singular charm.

Ambitious Trio Performance

Later in the year, Han joins violinist Kristof Barati and pianist Park Jae-hong in a compelling ensemble. The trio will delve into masterpieces such as Rachmaninov’s, Dvorak’s, and Tchaikovsky’s compositions, merging their distinct talents into profound musical dialogues.

Artistic Growth and Reflection

Han Jae-min views his residency as a passage to maturity, an outlet for developing his identity as a musician. He expresses gratitude for this growth platform, looking to delve deeper into his musical essence and to seize new opportunities for new personal and artistic development.
