Winterruption Festival Brings a Musical Feast to Winnipeg
As winter holds Winnipeg in its frosty grip, a beacon of warmth emanates from the city's music scene. Starting this Tuesday, the West End Cultural Centre in collaboration with Real Love Wpg kicks off the fifth edition of Winterruption, a gala of musical performances set to animate the town for an entire week.
A Melting Pot of Musical Genres
The festival boasts an impressive lineup of 35 acts that span local heroes and international talents, gracing stages across six venues, including the iconic West End Cultural Centre, the soon-to-close Good Will Social Club, and several other beloved spots like the Bulldog Event Centre, Times Change(d), Forks Market, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
Attendees will be treated to an eclectic mix, from the electronic beats of French synth trio Meule, to the soulful melodies of Sunny War from Los Angeles, to the arresting rhymes of Haitian Canadian rapper Waahli.
Local Talent and Cultural Celebrations
The festival is not just about the music but also about community and culture. The standout local talent, including names such as Greg MacPherson, Amos the Kid, and Rayannah, promise to resonate with hometown pride. Moreover, the festival intertwines with the second annual Winterruption Round Dance, which is hosted by the human rights museum in partnership with the Sakihiwe Festival. This free event honors Indigenous culture with a pipe ceremony and guest singers.
A full list of events and artists is available through the festival, ensuring all attendees can plot their musical journey through Winterruption's dynamic offering.
