Industry Certification for Event Organizers After Dua Lipa's Concert Cancellation in Indonesia

Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has reacted to the last-minute cancellation of Dua Lipa's concert in Indonesia, which was scheduled to take place at the Indonesia Arena in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Kadin emphasized the importance of certification for event organizers.

Ria Yusnita, Vice Chairman of Kadin for Event Management, urged the government to provide certification for industry players and professionals involved in event organization. She believes that this step is crucial if the government aims to make events, especially music concerts, a leading sector for boosting the domestic economy.

“Standardization is necessary, and the certification of professionals for all event industry participants can no longer be delayed. There needs to be government regulations governing this certification,” Ria stated in a press release on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Ria expressed disappointment over Dua Lipa's concert cancellation, highlighting its potential positive impact on the Indonesian economy. "Concerts can increase economic growth and create jobs, particularly in tourism and the creative economy. The micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector would also benefit from the concert through sales of food, beverages, and merchandise,” she explained.

Furthermore, she pointed out that the sudden cancellation has caused significant financial losses, including for food and beverage vendors who prepared goods for sale, merchandise sellers who produced items, and hotels that faced booking cancellations.

“In addition to the losses faced by various business actors, the cancellation of Dua Lipa’s concert due to stage safety issues could also create a negative perception of Indonesia internationally. This is because promoters and vendors may be seen as lacking the qualifications that meet international artist standards,” Ria added.

Previously, Dua Lipa expressed her regret over the cancellation of her concert in Jakarta, stating that she had already arrived in the city. "I am very sad to share this news because I will not be able to perform in Jakarta. I was ready to perform for your country. However, I must share the unfortunate news due to safety concerns regarding the performance," Dua Lipa mentioned in her Instagram post on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
