Published February 1, 2025

Jamie Lee Curtis has paid tribute to the legendary singer and actress Marianne Faithfull after her passing at the age of 78.

On Thursday, January 30, Faithfull's representatives announced that she had "passed away peacefully in London today, surrounded by her loving family. She will be dearly missed." This news sparked a wave of tributes from across the entertainment industry, highlighting her impact and legacy.

Iconic musicians have expressed their condolences, including Mick Jagger, who shared a heartfelt message for his former partner. Metallica called Faithfull “fearless,” while Morrissey remarked on how she “brought us all closer.” Sir Paul McCartney remembered her as “beautiful and sweet.”

On Friday, January 31, Curtis honored Faithfull by sharing a memorable photo on Instagram. The image features Faithfull and the late Sinead O’Connor, who also passed away in 2023, watching Eminem perform in Dublin.

In her post, Curtis reflected on the significance of the moment: “This is the second time I’m posting this picture. The first was the day that Sinead died. I never printed it because Marianne’s eyes were closed, but then when Sinead died, I found the contact sheet and took a quick picture. I can’t access my photo file right now because of the fires and I’ve just heard that Marianne died today.”

She continued, “She was a great friend of my friend John Boorman and was a fascinating artist and woman, and it’s a great loss. When I can get access to my photo files, I will find a better picture of her. We went to a music festival in Dublin to hear Eminem, and it’s a precious memory for me today.”

Among those remembering Faithfull is Damon Albarn, who described her as “lovely, beautiful, wonderful.”

Marianne Faithfull was a prominent figure during the ‘Swinging London’ arts and music scene in the 1960s and became one of the leading female artists of the British Invasion era. She is celebrated for numerous hits, including “As Tears Go By,” and for her performances on stage and in films.

Her connection with The Rolling Stones significantly raised her public profile. After marrying artist John Dunbar in 1965 and having a son named Nicholas, she famously left him for Mick Jagger in 1966. Their four-year relationship is well-documented, and Faithfull is often regarded as a muse for the band. She inspired classic songs like “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Wild Horses” and co-wrote the track “Sister Morphine,” earning writing credits after a long legal battle.

In 2021, Faithfull shared her struggle with the aftermath of a nearly fatal battle with COVID-19 that threatened her ability to sing. After being hospitalized in March 2020 for 22 days, she disclosed a year later that she still felt its lingering effects.

A biopic about her life, titled Faithfull, has been in production since 2020 but remains incomplete.

Fans have also been reminiscing about Faithfull's final concert, which took place at Le Bataclan in Paris in 2016. During that performance, she showcased her beloved songs along with covers of works by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
