Albox Welcomes the Return of the Prestigious Processional Marches Contest After 14 Years

Published February 4, 2024

The town of Albox is buzzing with excitement as the esteemed Processional Marches Contest is set to make a grand return on Saturday, February 18. For the first time in 14 years, the event will be held at the Water and Health Centre, where attendees can enjoy the musical talents of three bands free of charge.

A Triumphant Comeback

The competition, which last graced the town over a decade ago, will feature performances by the Albox Municipal Music Band, the Virgen de la Amargura Musical Group from Lorca, and the María Santísima de la Estrella Musical Group from Granada. This occasion is a collaborative effort by the Albox Council and the five local Brotherhoods, acknowledging the deep-rooted connection between municipal bands and the Holy Week Easter parades.

Celebrating Local Traditions

The Albox Holy Week celebrations, recognized as an event of National Tourist Interest in Andalucia, have spurred the Council to take action to elevate the municipal band. They aim to provide greater visibility and celebrate the cultural heritage of Albox through this significant event. With the contest starting at noon on February 18, the organizers anticipate a large turnout, drawing hundreds of attendees from across Almeria to revel in this cultural spectacle.
