George Clinton, Doobie Brothers Join Songwriters Hall of Fame

Published January 22, 2025

The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2025 inductees, featuring notable artists such as George Clinton and The Doobie Brothers.

According to Nile Rodgers, Chairman of the Hall of Fame, "The foundation of the music industry exists because songwriters compose great songs. Without them, there is no recorded music, no concert business, no fans, or merchandising; it all starts with the song and the songwriter." This emphasizes the critical role songwriters play in the music industry.

George Clinton is celebrated for his iconic tracks, including "Atomic Dog" and "I'd Rather Be With You". Meanwhile, The Doobie Brothers are known for classics like "Takin' It to the Streets" and "Long Train Runnin'". Their contributions to music have cemented their places in history.

Other inductees this year include Ashley Gorley, who has written for major artists such as Post Malone and Morgan Wallen; Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, famous for songs like "Say My Name" for Destiny’s Child; Mike Love from The Beach Boys, known for hits such as "California Girls" and "Good Vibrations"; and Tony Macaulay, recognized for writing "Build Me Up Buttercup".

This year's group of inductees is composed entirely of male songwriters. They were selected from a considerable pool of nominees, which included notable figures such as Bryan Adams, Boy George & Culture Club, Sheryl Crow, Eminem, Janet Jackson, and Alanis Morissette.

The inductees will be honored at a ceremony on June 12 in New York City, bringing together talented artists who have significantly impacted the world of music.
