Michael Shannon Pays Tribute to R.E.M.'s 'Murmur' in Minneapolis Show with Jason Narducy
Renowned for his intense acting roles, Michael Shannon is taking his talents to a new stage – music. Best known for performances in 'Boardwalk Empire', 'Knives Out', and his Oscar-nominated roles in 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Nocturnal Animals', Shannon is also a passionate musician. His exploration into music isn't new; his band Corporal released an album in 2010.
More recently, Shannon has been working with established guitarist Jason Narducy, known for his work with Bob Mould, Liz Phair, and his own project Split Single. Their connection was sparked a decade ago during a show in Chicago, and since then, they've celebrated numerous iconic albums through performances.
In recognition of a club's 40th anniversary, they performed R.E.M.'s 'Murmur' in Chicago, with R.E.M.'s own Mike Mills making an appearance. Now, their tribute to 'Murmur' is coming to First Avenue in Minneapolis, signaling the first of these performances to tour beyond Chicago.
The anticipation isn't only for the audience but for Shannon himself, who admits to being more familiar with roles on the silver screen than gigs on the road. Yet, whether acting or performing music, it's clear Shannon seeks to relate authentically to his listeners, and Minneapolis audiences are in for a unique experience as Shannon and Narducy play homage to R.E.M.'s legendary album.
The journey doesn't stop in Minneapolis though. With both Shannon and Narducy being busy with various projects, there's always the possibility of future shows. Shannon hints at potentially celebrating the music of the Talking Heads, another of his favorite bands. Whether on screen or on stage, Shannon's diverse artistic endeavors continue to captivate audiences everywhere.
