Jay-Z Drinks from Grammy Award After Critiquing The Ceremony

Published February 5, 2024

At the recent Grammy Awards, Jay-Z took a moment to both criticize and celebrate. Although he used his acceptance speech to highlight the Recording Academy's historical oversight in recognizing his wife Beyoncé's work, he also displayed a jovial side. After his speech, he was seen using his newly won Dr. Dre Global Impact Award as an impromptu drinking cup.

Using the Grammy As a Drink Cup

Following his critical speech, Jay-Z returned to his seat and poured himself a beverage into the golden gramophone trophy from a bottle of D'usse cognac. He then took a sip, visibly in good spirits despite the earlier pointed comments.

Advocating for Beyoncé's Recognition

In his acceptance speech, Jay-Z openly criticized the Grammy Awards for failing to acknowledge Beyoncé’s Renaissance album for Album of the Year. He highlighted the inconsistency in her winning numerous Grammys yet never claiming the top album honor, challenging the Academy's judgment against its own award metrics.

A Family Affair at the Grammys

During the ceremony, Jay-Z also shared a light-hearted family anecdote regarding his daughter Blue Ivy who, as a child, used Grammy awards like sippy cups. Now, with Blue Ivy owning her own Grammys and growing up, it was a nostalgic moment that evoked an embarrassed reaction from the teenager, reminding everyone that celebrity parents can embarrass their children just like any other.
