Rocky Mountain Brassworks Celebrates Celtic Tradition with Annual Concert in Broomfield

Published March 8, 2024

Mark your calendars for March 16, as the Rocky Mountain Brassworks is set to bring its annual Celtic Concert to the Broomfield Auditorium. Timed perfectly for St. Patrick's Day festivities, this event promises an evening steeped in the musical traditions of the British Isles. The show titled "Myths, Legends and Tales" is a much-anticipated celebration that has been part of the band's repertoire for over ten years.

Celtic Roots and Brass Tunes

Director Ron Argotsinger takes pride in the band's homage to its British brass band heritage. Since its inception in 1978, the ensemble has stayed true to the British brass band format—eschewing woodwinds for a powerful all-brass lineup, including the cornet, trombone, and tuba, alongside a selection of percussionists.

This concert is particularly special as it delves into Celtic music, embodying the band's versatility. Audiences can look forward to renditions of film scores from cinematic hits such as 'Far and Away' by John Williams and 'Braveheart' composed by James Horner.

A Fusion of Tradition and Talent

To compensate for the absence of traditional Celtic instruments, Rocky Mountain Brassworks will be joined by bagpipers from the El Jebel Shriners, adding an authentic flair to the performance. As an additional highlight, euphonium soloist Keven Stewart—winner of the 2023 BrassFest Solo Competition and a seasoned performer—will take the stage.

Stewart, who comes with a rich background of playing and teaching low brass instruments, promises to enchant the audience with a blend of lyrical melodies and spirited segments during his 8-minute solo performance, showcasing the lesser-known but melodious euphonium.

Experience the Enchantment of Euphonium

The euphonium, known for its warm and mellow timbre, often gets confused with the baritone but stands out due to its distinct charm—an aspect Stewart is eager to highlight. His performance aims to leave the audience in awe of the instrument's capabilities.

The Celtic Concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. on March 16 at the Broomfield Auditorium. Those interested in experiencing this blend of Celtic flair and brass brilliance can secure their tickets and contribute to keeping this musical tradition alive.
