The only performance of the night was by Williams, the opening act, whose song 'The Hucklebuck,' became a crossover hit, laying the groundwork for rock 'n' roll's mainstream success.

Despite the chaos, the concert cemented Freed's reputation as a rock ‘n’ roll pioneer.
