Village People to Perform at Trump’s Inauguration

Published January 14, 2025

On January 14, 2025, President-elect Donald Trump's musical aspirations are set to become a reality. The iconic group, Village People, known for their classic hit "Y.M.C.A.," has announced they will perform at Trump's second inauguration. This performance is expected to include events featuring Trump himself.

In a statement shared on their official Facebook page, the Village People acknowledged that not everyone will be pleased with this decision. They stated, "We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear; however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics. Our song 'Y.M.C.A.' is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it’s now time to unite the country through music."

The group indicated they would take part in various events throughout the inauguration celebrations scheduled for 2025. Reactions to their announcement have been mixed, with some fans supporting the decision to put politics aside, while others have criticized the group as "sell outs."

Trump's fondness for the song "Y.M.C.A." is well-known, as he frequently played it during his campaign. This appearance makes the Village People the second major musical act to confirm their participation in the inauguration, following country music star Carrie Underwood, who was announced to sing at the January 20 event.

Underwood expressed her excitement in a statement, saying, "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."

This year's inauguration seems to be a significant improvement in terms of musical talent compared to Trump's first inauguration in 2017. Back then, he faced difficulties securing performers and ended up featuring America's Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho and the Radio City Rockettes.
