We have very sad news to share from the entertainment and reality television world. Ryan Whyte Maloney, known for his time on The Voice in 2014, has sadly passed away at the age of 44. The cause of death is reported as an apparent suicide.
The Clark County Coroner's office in Las Vegas confirmed that Maloney died from a gunshot wound to the head on January 28. This devastating news has drawn immense sorrow from fans and those who admired his talent.
Shortly before his death, Maloney was active on social media and posted a video on his Instagram story. The video appeared to be shot at a bar where he mentioned, "Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking," while signaling a rock hand gesture.
Ryan Whyte Maloney was a standout contestant on The Voice during the same season as Morgan Wallen, who has since become one of the biggest names in country music. Maloney's performance of "Lights" by Journey earned him praise from all four judges, and he ultimately chose to be part of Blake Shelton's team, becoming one of the top 5 finalists of that season.
During his time on the show, he recorded four singles, including tracks such as "Lights," "What’s Love Got to Do with It," "Easy," and "Second Chance." Maloney advanced through two battle rounds and was featured in the season finale.
According to his official website, he maintained a close relationship with Blake Shelton even after his time on the program, and he held an ongoing residency at Shelton's venue, Ole Red. Maloney had a rich musical background, having played guitar, violin, cello, and drums from a young age. He once performed as the frontman of a prog-rock band named Indulge, releasing the album Tomorrow's Another Day in 2005.
After a decade of touring with the band, he shifted his focus to solo music and released his album Where I’ve Been. In January 2023, he launched a new single on country radio titled "Don’t Put Me in a Box" and subsequently released more songs including "Love With Nowhere to Go," "Sleepwalk," and "Toast To Tonight." Throughout his music career, Ryan shared stages with prominent artists like Tim McGraw, Morgan Wallen, and Ed Sheeran, showcasing his versatility and talent.
