Published February 23, 2024

The upcoming First Friday @ First Presbyterian event is set to showcase the talents of local youth on March 1, featuring performances by the Orpheus Music Club Young Artists. These young talents, consisting of junior and senior musicians from area high schools, will grace the stage at the church located on South Fourth and Ash Streets.

Event Details

The midday program promises an entertaining showcase from 12:05 to 12:35 p.m., and the good news is, it's free and open to the public. Additionally, the event will be accessible to a broader audience as it will be streamed online at facebook.com/FPC.Sterling. The performance will be both live and available for subsequent viewing, not requiring viewers to have a Facebook account to enjoy the show.

Young Artist Lineup

Attendees and online viewers can look forward to a variety of musical pieces performed by the students. The lineup includes Alex Becker with "Jersey Giant", Faith Cole's rendition of "I Will Sing You the Stars", and Tristan Lee performing "Greenland Fishery". Saikal Matazimova will deliver "May You Always Have a Song", while bass Jaden Ruppel presents "All Day on the Prairie". The program also features alto Alyssa See with "Soldier, Soldier, Will You Marry Me?", and Izaiah Wilkins covering the hit "Fast Car".

Honoring Excellence in Music

The event will not only offer a platform for these musicians to shine but will also include the significant moment of the Orpheus Music Club presenting the annual Milligan Award to an outstanding graduating senior musician. This award, a tradition since the 1950s, honors Mrs. Johnnie Milligan, who significantly contributed to the local music scene from 1918 to 1958, and supports students aspiring to pursue further music education.
