Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Debuts 'Words and Music: Journey of a Song' Online Series

Published December 7, 2023

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum in Nashville is set to release an innovative online video series titled Words & Music: Journey of a Song. This new series features a quintet of episodes and delves into the music-making process with the help of talented songwriters Tenille Townes, Shannon Sanders, Caitlyn Smith, and Cameron Bedell. The first episode will be aired on December 13th, marking the beginning of a weekly educational adventure.

Following the Creative Process

In a unique educational approach, Words & Music: Journey of a Song tracks the artistic progression of four aspiring teenage songwriters. These young musicians are guided by seasoned professionals in the art of songwriting. Viewers can look forward to witness the songwriting journey starting from groundwork sessions to co-authoring with mentor songwriters, proceeding to recording, and eventually, arranging the song for live performance.

Unfolding the Experiences

Each episode spotlights the experience of one student and culminates in a collective performance held at the museum's CMA Theater. The series aims at inspiring not just young individuals and families to try out songwriting, but also anyone interested in the creative process.

Educational Elements and Opportunities

The museum's education team has thoughtfully extended the existing Words & Music educational program to incorporate this series. Alongside the episodes, the museum offers a comprehensive lyric-writing guide for free on their website, armed with additional video content. There's also a contest for youths aged 13 to 18, with a grand prize that includes a trip to Nashville and a scholarship to a summer songwriting camp.

Detailing the Episodes

The individual stories of Abby Whitman's 'Peter in the Garden,' Jazmine Croom's 'Last Thing,' Max Rees' 'Ticket,' and Avalon Simpson's 'Kenopsia' will be shared in separate episodes, leading up to a finale showcasing their performances.
