Edmonds Polar Plunge Seeks Musicians for New Year's Day Parade to Beach

Published December 14, 2023

On the first day of 2023, the annual Polar Plunge event at Edmonds' Brackett's Landing is planning to offer something new and exciting for its participants — a musical procession to the icy waters. This fresh addition aims at enhancing the festive atmosphere as brave souls prepare to dive into the New Year with a chilly swim. The event organizers, known as the Polar Plunge Paraders, have already enlisted a small but enthusiastic band of musicians consisting of a trumpet, a sousaphone, and a drum, to lead the way from the customary starting location at Daphnes Bar down to the beach.

Call for Musicians

The Polar Plunge Paraders are extending an invitation to other musicians who would like to join the ensemble for what's being billed as the 'inaugural year' of having a musical lead. Organizer Scot Simpson states emphatically that additional instrumentalists are eagerly sought to bring more joy to the procession: the more, the merrier. Simpson reassures that participation in the actual plunge is not mandatory for those who come to play music.

How to Join

For musicians interested in being part of this vibrant addition to the Polar Plunge tradition, Scot Simpson is the primary contact. Potential participants can reach out by emailing [email protected] or by calling 425-280-8920 to express their interest and get more details. This unique opportunity allows for community members to contribute to the event's merriment and possibly start a musical tradition that could continue for years to come.
