Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs from the 80s Discovered

Published December 13, 2024

A recent discovery has emerged regarding unreleased songs from the legendary Michael Jackson, 15 years after his passing. One fortunate finder stumbled upon dozens of hidden tracks that have been kept away for decades, unveiling a piece of music history.

The tapes were uncovered in a storage unit located in Van Nuys, California. This storage unit reportedly belonged to Bryan Loren, a music producer and singer.

The finder, Gregg Musgrove, age 56, discovered an impressive collection of 12 unreleased tracks recorded by Jackson between 1989 and 1991, just before the King of Pop began work on his iconic Dangerous album.

Among the notable tracks is a song titled "Don’t Believe It" along with another called "Seven Digits." The latter contains a reference made by Jackson about the numbers associated with a body in a morgue. A song named "Truth on Youth" is said to feature a rap duet between Jackson and LL Cool J.

Musgrove shared his excitement with media outlets, describing how listening to these tracks gives him 'goosebumps.' He emphasized that many of these songs are well-known among fans, while some have never been heard publicly.

Musgrove expressed, "I’ve gone to all the fan sites. Some of them the songs are rumored to exist, some of them have been leaked a little bit. A couple aren’t even out there in the world." He continued, expressing the thrill of hearing Jackson's interactions and playful remarks, stating, "It was really, really cool."

Unfortunately, fans hoping to hear these songs may be disappointed. Musgrove reached out to the Jackson Estate to discuss purchasing the tapes, but they declined the offer. He mentioned that the estate issued a letter stating they do not wish to claim ownership, but they still retain the copyright to the recordings.

The market value of the discovered tapes remains uncertain, though Musgrove indicated they could be worth millions. He plans to auction off the recordings in the future.

Since Jackson's death in 2009, several of his songs have been released posthumously, including popular tracks like "This Is It" and "Love Never Felt So Good," in which he collaborated with Justin Timberlake. The first posthumous album, titled Michael, came out in 2010, featuring singles such as "Hold My Hand" with Akon, and in 2012, another album called Xscape was released, showcasing more unreleased material from the pop icon.
