Bears R Back Party Aims to Connect UNC and Greeley Communities with a Vibrant Music Night

Published January 24, 2024

On a Friday evening, Greeley's downtown scene will come alive with the eclectic sounds of the Bears R Back party. Taking place at the Moxi Theater on 802 9th St, starting from 9 p.m., this event is set to feature an exciting mix of music by DJ Sardonyx, Porridge, and COLLUR, enticing both University of Northern Colorado (UNC) students and Greeley locals to join the fun.

A Unique Thematic Experience

The Bears R Back is not your typical college party. This year's 'hot vs. cold' theme encourages attendees to get creative with their attire, sporting summer, winter, or even a combination of seasonal costumes. But the event is about more than just the dress code.

Connecting Communities Through Music

The brainchild behind this lively affair is UNC student Landon Ungerman, also known as COLLUR, who while exploring Greeley last summer, observed a disconnect between the campus and the wider community. With Bears R Back, Ungerman seeks to bridge this gap, starting with the inaugural party last August at the Moxi, which he funded with a personal investment of $1,000, putting the spotlight on music and student engagement. This year he is expanding his efforts to include the broader community, investing $3,000 of his own funds.

Local Support and Anticipation

Enthusiasm for the Bears R Back party is bolstered by local businesses that have come on board as sponsors. Stella's Pinball Arcade & Lounge takes charge of the afterparty, while other venues offer pre-party promotions and giveaways, including free food from Sexy Sammies and a vinyl record prize. The UNC and Greeley native band Porridge is amped up to perform new tunes, adding diversity to the event's musical lineup.

A Catalyst for Change

The party organizers hope that events like Bears R Back can change the perception of Greeley, showcasing its potential as a vibrant place for community gatherings and artistic expression. With a turnout goal of at least 250 people, the focus remains on ensuring everyone enjoys a great time. Ungerman and his fellow musicians recognize the creative energy in Greeley and seek to harness it, ultimately making it a destination of choice for locals and students alike.

Looking Ahead

While Ungerman plans to take a breather post-party, his vision for Bears R Back transcends the single event—he envisages it being a recurring festivity that unifies the college and city, even contemplating passing on the organizing role before graduating in the spring of 2025.

In addition to the music acts, the party will spice things up with costume contests, mocktail options, door prizes, and giveaways. With a modest entry fee and free access for the first 25 arrivals, the Bears R Back party is an accessible celebration for all.

Don't miss out on the night's culmination at Stella's for the afterparty, kicking off at 11 p.m.
