Adding Music to Your Instagram Posts Just Got Easier

Published January 8, 2024

Ever wanted to spice up your Instagram posts with some tunes? Instagram has made it seamless for its users to enhance their images with music. This feature is a hit for users looking to animate their visual content and express their music preferences.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Music to Posts

To begin, simply pick a photo you'd like to post and hit the 'Next' button. Following that, tap on the music note icon located at the top of the edit screen to access Instagram's extensive music library, which boasts over 12,000 tracks. You're able to sift through the library in various ways: browse the 'For You' recommendations, explore your saved favorites, or pursue a specific song, artist, or album using the search function.

The app's functionality enables you to integrate up to 90 seconds of a song into your post. You can precisely select which part of the tune to feature by sliding the track left or right. It's a great tool to match the perfect piece of a song to the vibe of your image.

Music for Multiple Photos and Potential New Features

Although initially introduced for Stories and Reels, Instagram expanded this music feature to still image posts in 2022. By August 2023, they further extended it to allow for music in carousel posts, which lets users post multiple images together. Note, though, that carousels including videos do not currently support music.

Instagram isn't stopping there. It's been reported that the app is testing the idea of allowing music on user profiles, reminiscent of the customization seen on old-school MySpace profiles.
