Ex-Mr. Bungle Musician Theo Lengyel Involved in Missing Persons Case

Published December 19, 2023

Theo Brooks Lengyel, known for his time with the experimental rock band Mr. Bungle, has recently been identified as a 'person of interest' in a missing persons case concerning his girlfriend, Alice 'Alyx' Kamakaokalani Herrmann.

Background of Theo Brooks Lengyel

Lengyel is recognized for his contributions to Mr. Bungle during the band's early years as a founding member. He played a pivotal role in shaping their sound by playing instruments such as the saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards. Active in the group from its inception in 1985 until his departure in 1996, Lengyel was featured on several key releases including their first demo 'The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny' and their 1995 album 'Disco Volante'.

Lengyel's Departure from Mr. Bungle

Lengyel left Mr. Bungle under negative circumstances. According to bassist Trevor Dunn, the separation occurred because Lengyel was not progressing alongside the rest of the band, and creative differences aroused enough tension that it led to his exit. Dunn mentioned that since Lengyel's departure, he has not been in contact with him.

The Disappearance of Alyx Herrmann

Herrmann, Lengyel's girlfriend, was reported missing by her family on December 12, sparking considerable concern when she did not maintain her usual contact with them. She was last seen on December 3 in Santa Cruz. The Bay Area police named Lengyel a person of interest following the discovery of Herrmann's vehicle, a red 2007 Toyota Highlander, parked outside his home. Moreover, police have reportedly experienced a lack of cooperation from Lengyel during the investigation.

Evidence has suggested that Lengyel may have traveled to Portland, Oregon shortly after Herrmann's disappearance. This development has prompted coordination among investigators from various jurisdictions, including Capitola and Portland, aiming to trace Lengyel’s whereabouts and find any clues related to Herrmann's current location.
