New York's Music Community Celebrates 66th Grammy Nominees at Hudson Yards

Published January 29, 2024

Last week marked a special occasion for the New York music scene, as artists and industry professionals gathered at the Edge sky deck in Hudson Yards to honor their peers nominated for the prestigious 66th Grammy Awards. The Edge, renowned for being the Western Hemisphere's highest outdoor observation deck, offered a breathtaking backdrop for the spirited event.

Celebrating on Broadway's Day Off

The nominee celebration customarily takes place on a Monday, accommodating the schedule of Broadway performers who typically have that day free. The event draws an eclectic mix from the music industry, including performers from theatre, jazz, and various other genres.

Nick Cucci, the senior executive director of The Recording Academy’s New York Chapter, noted the significance of the event’s location by saying, "This is the highest nominee celebration that’s ever existed." Indeed, the gathering was not just a metaphorical peak for the nominees but also a literal one.

Eclectic Mix of Nominee Attendees

The nominee celebration saw attendees from various corners of the music world, including Broadway cast members from shows such as 'Kimberly Akimbo' and nominees for the 'Best Musical Theater Album' like 'Parade' and 'Shucked.' The event also featured personal appearances by prominent artists like Liz Callaway, Fred Hersch, J. Ivy, Kevin Powell, and Nicole Zuraitis paired with Louis Cato. Guests enjoyed the company, the view, and the festive environment complete with music by DJ Nyla.

Ruby Marchand, the chief awards and industry officer for the New York Chapter, expressed her excitement about the number of local nominees: "It’s such an exciting moment to look out in this room because we have over 200 nominees from New York."

Mastercard: A Platinum Partner

The evening's festivities were also supported by Mastercard, serving as a platinum partner. Their ongoing relationship with The Recording Academy New York Chapter is part of a multiyear commitment to fostering a blend of culture, community, and innovation. This sentiment was echoed by Stephanie Fink, Hudson Yards’ senior vice president of marketing, partnership, and events, who highlighted Mastercard’s alignment with Hudson Yards' vibrant cultural and entertainment offerings.
