Reasons for the Cancellation

The reason behind the cancellation can be traced back to a merger involving Paramount Global and Skydance Media that began in 2024. Bruce Gillmer, an executive at Paramount, shared news with his staff indicating that due to this merger, several events would be "paused" throughout 2025.

In his memo, Gillmer stated, "We want to share some news. We are pausing a few events for 2025, as we look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward. This includes the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards. Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount's music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture."

For many country music lovers, this cancellation is disappointing. However, it's essential to note that not all country music award events have been affected by this decision.

Other Country Music Award Ceremonies

Notably, the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards) has not been canceled. This event has been produced by Amazon Prime Video since 2022, and is still set to take place as planned.

Moreover, the 2025 Country Music Awards (CMAs) are also on schedule, as this ceremony is produced by the ABC network.

Last year, the CMT Awards took place on April 7 in Austin, Texas, at the Moody Center and featured a wide array of performances.
