The Weeknd Performs New Song Ahead of Album Release

Published January 31, 2025

The Weeknd delivered an impressive performance of his new single "Open Hearts" on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on January 31. This performance took place right before the launch of his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was officially released on February 1.

The album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, features a total of 22 tracks, beginning with the song "Wake Me Up" and concluding with the title track. However, a song titled "Dancing in the Flames" was initially planned for the album but ultimately did not make the final cut.

During his performance, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, made a striking entrance on stage dressed in what looked like a robe along with glowing glasses. As he sang, a white screen came alight behind him, coupled with a hazy mist that enveloped the stage.

His performance included lines from the song such as, "Where do I start when I open my heart? It's never easy, falling in love again. Cover my scars, when I open my arms. It's never easy, falling in love again." The lighting synchronized with the tempo of the music, creating a dramatic effect with flashes of strobe lights that seemed to illuminate the entire stage.

At a certain point in the performance, Tesfaye removed his glasses. Suddenly, the seats in the audience were empty aside from one young boy who applauded. Following this, The Weeknd was visually transported to a surreal stop-motion realm, where he transformed into a stop-motion figure and found himself being pulled into a slime pit.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is the final part of a trilogy of albums that started with After Hours, released in 2020, and followed by Dawn FM. This latest album not only boasts a rich collection of songs but also serves as inspiration for a psychological thriller film titled Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring The Weeknd alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The film is expected to hit theaters on May 16.
