Lana Del Rey Shares Insight on the Musical Atmosphere Surrounding Highly-Anticipated Country Album

Published October 26, 2024

Lana Del Rey has been a prominent figure in the music industry since the early 2000s. She gained fame by blending genres such as rock and pop, and has released a total of nine studio albums. Her latest album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, was launched just last year. Seeking to broaden her artistic horizons, Del Rey is now diving into the world of country music, following in the footsteps of artists like Beyoncé and Post Malone. With country music gaining traction, Del Rey's upcoming debut country album, Lasso, is on many fans' radar.

Recently, at the 2024 Instyle Imagemaker Awards, Del Rey sat down with People to discuss her exciting new project. She shared her thoughts on the creative process, noting, “I think all the songs have been Americana and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like. Cause I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels like physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why.” This insight into her preparation shows how deeply she connects with her music.

Respecting the Genre

Del Rey is committed to honoring the rich history of country music as she works on her album. She emphasized the importance of authenticity in her music, saying, “I’ll have to see if it’s because of something someone’s done or because it’s going to take a turn.” She values her artistic vision and does not want to rush the completion of her project just for the sake of releasing it.

Creative Freedom

Despite the uncertainties surrounding her new album, Del Rey expressed affection for the songs she has already created. “The songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half cooked, even if it’s super stripped back. I want it to be what it was supposed to be,” she stated. Her dedication to her work reflects a desire for quality over speed.

Del Rey is enjoying the creative journey of making Lasso. She described the process as playful, saying, “Maybe three years ago there would have been a sense of vindication, but now it just feels playful. I don’t know why. If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here. It’s easy-going in that way.” This sentiment shows a newfound joy in her artistry, separating her current experience from past pressures.
