Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher Champion Manchester Charity Gig to Battle Food Poverty

Published December 13, 2023

Football icons Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher are teaming up to present a special charity concert in Manchester designed to tackle the pressing issue of food poverty. The gig, dubbed 'Music Feeds Live', will showcase performances from a roster of renowned musicians, with the goal of raising substantial funds for foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

Uniting Music and Charity

The event is scheduled to take place at the O2 Apollo Manchester on February 27, with over ten artists set to take the stage. Among them are members of the band James including Tim Booth, Jim Glennie, and Saul Davies, who is spearheading the initiative alongside his partner Vanda Guerreiro. Other acts include The Farm, Chicane, Slow Readers Club, Lanterns On The Lake, and Simon Armitage, Britain's poet laureate, with his band LYR. More artists are expected to be announced leading up to the event.

A Night of Musical Collaborations

Beyond providing entertainment, the night aims to foster a spirit of community and unity in the fight against hunger. Radio 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins will join Neville and Carragher in hosting the event, while the Joe Duddell Orchestra is set to collaborate with guest artists throughout the evening, promising a unique and eclectic mix of performances.

The organizers have set a fundraising target of £150,000 to support the Trussell Trust, a key organization operating foodbanks across the country. Tickets for the concert were made available starting 9am GMT on December 15.

Saul Davies emphasizes the event's dual purpose, saying 'Music Feeds Live is about positivity and solidarity.' He stresses the importance of the artists' role in using their voice and influence to gather critical support for those facing food insecurity. Promoter Julian Murray expressed excitement for the event, highlighting the collective goal of musicians and fans coming together to help others in need.

The forthcoming event builds on the success of a two-day online festival held during lockdown in January 2021, which featured stars like Liam Gallagher and Sam Smith and managed to raise £1million for Fareshare and support organizations Help Musician and Stagehand.
