Connectd LB Hosts Open Mic Night Celebrating Cultural Diversity

Published March 2, 2024

Connectd LB recently launched Culturs Week with a vibrant open mic event at The Nugget Grill and Pub focused on the theme 'Straddling Cultures.' The evening saw a blend of musical performances, poetry readings, and speeches from 4 to 6 p.m., all aimed at encouraging students to express their cultural experiences and share them with the broader community.

A Platform for Cultural Expression

The open mic night was conceived as a safe space for individuals to delve into their cultural roots and thereby promote understanding and empathy among diverse populations. The idea was in line with the mission of Culturs Magazine, which Connectd LB represents, a publication committed to highlighting the richness of global multicultural life, particularly among those living across cultural boundaries.

Engaging Activities and Presentations

Participants enthusiastically engaged in various activities, such as signing banners and pinning their origins on a globe, which served to visually represent the diversity present. There were also interactions around a poster that showcased different ways to greet each other in various languages, reinforcing the message of cultural inclusivity.

The event provided an amicable atmosphere that led to smiles, laughter, and appreciation among the audience and participants. It succeeded in drawing individuals to share their voices, with one attendee, Raphael Lipana, spontaneously deciding to perform a favorite song, leading to a satisfying and enjoyable personal experience.

Connectd LB's Ongoing Cultural Celebrations

The campaign continued throughout the week with other festivities, including International Mother Language Day and a dance and music celebration. These events were part of a broader effort by Connectd LB to honor and raise awareness of the vast cultural tapestry that enriches communities and fosters global connections.
