Heidi Montag Tops iTunes Chart After Losing Home in Wildfires
Reality television star Heidi Montag’s 2010 album Superficial has made a remarkable comeback, reaching No. 1 on iTunes’ all-genre songs and albums charts. This milestone occurred 15 years after its initial release and just after Montag and her husband, Spencer Pratt, lost their home in the recent Palisades Fire in Los Angeles.
On Friday, Pratt shared a series of heartbreaking photos of their destroyed house on TikTok. He urged his followers to support Montag by streaming her music, stating, “Please stream any of @heidimontag music on any platforms it will make a huge difference.” The response was overwhelming, and the campaign proved successful.
Montag’s album Superficial managed to surpass Bad Bunny’s latest release, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, securing the top spot on the albums chart. The title track also outperformed popular songs from stars like Blackpink's ROSÉ and Bruno Mars' well-known single, APT.
In an Instagram video posted on Sunday, Pratt expressed immense gratitude, saying, “Thank you everyone! Who needs a house, who needs clothes, who needs anything but this level of clout, pop, superstardom? Our sons are gonna be like, ‘My mom was No. 1 on iTunes America.’ Thank you to everyone who made this happen.”
Following the success, Montag's album saw significant gains on Apple Music as well. Saturday marked Montag’s highest streaming day in the platform’s history, with an impressive increase of nearly 600% compared to the previous Saturday, according to an Apple Music representative.
On Sunday, Superficial re-entered Apple Music’s pop albums chart across 17 countries, including notable entries in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the U.K., where it peaked at No. 9. The album also made its debut on Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart in seven countries, achieving No. 65 in the U.S.
Montag first gained public attention as a cast member on the hit MTV show The Hills, which debuted in 2006. She met Pratt, who joined the reality series in its second season. The couple, often referred to as “Speidi” by the media, became tabloid fixtures known for their flamboyant lifestyle. They even published a book, How to Be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture, in 2009, coinciding with their marriage that same year.
After the conclusion of The Hills in 2010, their popularity began to wane, but the couple worked hard to maintain their presence through social media and other ventures.
The journey of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt shows how the support of their fans can lead to surprising comebacks, even amidst challenging circumstances.
