Oakland's Own Dani Satin and Her Velvet Band Bring Soul to Noise Pop Festival

Published February 16, 2024

Dani Satin, a beloved Oakland-based singer-songwriter renowned for her folk roots, is infusing her music with a new energy. Celebrated for her ability to forge a deep connection with her audience through storytelling and emotion, Satin has ventured into a new musical endeavor. Teaming up with her band named Dani Satin and the Velvet, they're bringing a vibrant mix of indie-rock, blues, and soul to life.

Introducing Dani Satin and the Velvet

Dani Satin and the Velvet, as the band is aptly called, is the result of Satin's passion for live performance and her desire to create a more electrifying sound. Joining her are talented musicians including Eric Melendez on bass, Monroe Vallejo on guitar, Isabelle Kimura on keyboard and vocals, and Loui Barcelo on drums. Together, they’re poised to reinterpret Satin's solo acoustic works into rich, fuller compositions that echo her diverse inspirations.

A Journey Through Loss and Music

Satin, who began her love affair with music at an early age, found songwriting as a refuge following her brother's death during her teenage years. She pursued her education at UC Berkeley, with a major in science and a minor in music, never really abandoning her musical aspirations. Her career later found her at Another Planet Entertainment, where her behind-the-scenes look at the music industry sparked the desire to return to the spotlight.

Music as a Healing Force

Music has always been Satin's healing force, helping her navigate through her deepest losses, including the recent passing of her father. She credits her creativity and courage to pursue music to him, as he had set an example by dedicating his life to a career in comedy writing and television. This personal connection to her craft resonates with the deeper bonds she hopes to build with her audience.

A Special Performance at Noise Pop

Satin's musical journey with her band reaches a new high as they are set to showcase their unique sound at the upcoming Noise Pop Festival. On March 2nd, Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco will become the stage where Dani Satin and the Velvet perform alongside acts like Kendra Morris and Elbows, sharing her evolution as an artist with an even wider audience.

The Road Ahead

With an album release on the horizon and more Bay Area performances planned, Dani Satin is creating a new musical identity. Fans old and new can look forward to the recorded tunes that will soon be available online, with live shows promising an invigorating experience of emotional richness and communal healing through music.
