2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

Published February 10, 2024

A diverse group of music icons, including Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Sade, and the bands Oasis and Ozzy Osbourne, have been announced as nominees for the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. These artists span various genres, from pop and soul to heavy metal.

First-Time Nominees and Returning Legends

For the first time, musicians such as Mariah Carey, known for her 19 chart-topping hits, and Cher, distinguished by her success across six decades, are among the potential inductees. Additionally, rockers Oasis and the 'Prince of Darkness' Ozzy Osbourne as a solo artist, with his legacy already cemented through his past induction with Black Sabbath, have also received their first nods. The late Sinead O’Connor, the sophisticated pop-soul of Sade, and the multifaceted artist Lenny Kravitz have been considered as well.

The Induction Process

Inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are voted on by a panel of over 1,000 industry experts, including artists, historians, and music professionals. Moreover, fans play a pivotal role as their votes contribute to the final decision through a special 'fans' ballot.' The official induction ceremony is set to take place this fall in Cleveland, where the selected artists will join the ranks of rock and roll royalty.

Nominees are only eligible for the honor 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording, ensuring their music has had a lasting impact. Last year's inductees included influential names like Missy Elliott and Willie Nelson.
