Noise Ctrl Rocks Rambling House with Genre-Bending Sounds
Columbus’ own musical sensation, Noise Ctrl, is set to command the Rambling House stage this Saturday along with their local counterpart, A Tiger Made of Lightning. Born in 2021, Noise Ctrl is a unique ensemble known for their eclectic blend of hard-rock, disco, and pop, featuring the talents of Kenny Thompson as the vocalist, Brad Friedman on guitar, and Cameron Howard behind the drums.
Early Beginnings and Musical Evolution
The band's journey began when Thompson embarked on creating an EP titled 'End Of An Era' at Black Moon Recordings with a former friend. This was before Noise Ctrl had taken its final shape. It was through the recording process at Black Moon that Thompson and Howard crossed paths, with Howard subsequently introducing his brother Friedman to the mix, thus completing the Noise Ctrl lineup.
The shift from a heavy metal-infused sound to their current hard-rock-disco-pop fusion was a conscious decision driven by a shared appreciation for varied musical genres. Thompson, a devoted indie pop fan, and his bandmates aspired to craft music that resonates with listeners’ urge for joyful experiences.
The Importance of Live Performance
Thompson holds their live shows in high regard, emphasizing the band's commitment to creating safe spaces for audiences to enjoy their music fully. Their performance at The Basement in July was a testament to this ethos, fostering an environment where attendees felt exceptionally comfortable. Noise Ctrl actively seeks to resonate and connect with the college-going crowd at Ohio State, considering them a progressive and open-minded audience ideal for their music and message.
Diverse Inspirations Shape Noise Ctrl's Sound
Each member draws on their distinct musical inspirations to contribute to the band's sound. With pop punk being Friedman’s genre of choice, these varied influences meld in the songwriting and recording sessions to define what Noise Ctrl is all about. Howard’s love for the heartfelt urgency of pop-punk and indie-pop is also a key ingredient in the band’s sonic palette.
Looking Ahead: New Music and Performances
Excitement is building for the debut of their unreleased single 'Be Afraid,' which is expected to hit streaming platforms in February 2024. However, Noise Ctrl’s immediate focus is on delivering powerful live acts, aiming to connect with audiences and spread positivity through their performances. This weekend’s concert, starting at 9 p.m., will be another opportunity for fans to experience the palpable energy of Noise Ctrl, with tickets available at the door for $15.
