King Charles Launches The King's Music Room Playlist for Apple Music

Published March 7, 2025

In a celebration of music and unity, King Charles has curated a special playlist called The King’s Music Room for Apple Music, coinciding with Commonwealth Day on March 10.

King Charles introduced the playlist in a video recorded from his office at Buckingham Palace. In this recording, he expresses the deep connection he has with music and its significance in his life. He states, "Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places."

The King continues to highlight that music can elevate our spirits, especially during celebrations, as it brings joy and a sense of togetherness.

Playlist Details

The King’s Music Room features an eclectic mix of artists from all over the Commonwealth’s 56 countries. The playlist includes timeless musicians from as early as the 1930s, alongside contemporary stars such as Kylie Minogue from Australia, Bob Marley from Jamaica, and Grace Jones, also Jamaican. Popular genres such as disco and Afrobeats are represented as well.

According to Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global head of Content and Editorial, "Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach. Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honored that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us, and with music fans around the world."
