Dave Grohl Debuts New Song Dedicated to Josh Homme at Benefit Show

Published March 21, 2024

At a recent benefit concert, Dave Grohl, known for his role as the frontman of the Foo Fighters, unveiled a heartfelt new song penned for his friend and fellow musician, Josh Homme. This touching tribute took place at a fundraising event aimed at supporting musicians in need.

Solo Performance with Deep Connections

Performing solo at 'Josh Homme & Friends', Grohl shared the spotlight with artists like Beck, St. Vincent, and The Kills at The Belasco in Los Angeles. This ensemble gathered to support the Sweet Stuff Foundation, which assists struggling musicians and their families.

Behind the Music

Grohl admitted to the audience that he was initially uncertain of what to perform for Homme's event. Joking about the potential to cover a Doja Cat song, he eventually chose a more personal approach, opting to express his genuine feelings for Homme through an original song. Grohl's aim was to both pay homage to Homme and playfully embarrass him amongst friends by declaring his affection in song lyrics.

The poignant lyrics Grohl sang included lines like 'When I'm feeling I've had enough, I've had enough/ If you feel like riding, you know I'll ride with you', encapsulating the deep bond between the two musicians. After the performance, Homme embraced Grohl, displaying a warm reception to the musical gift.

Future Collaborations and Past Ventures

Homme expressed a desire for a reunion of Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup including Grohl and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. While the future of this collaboration is uncertain, Homme places the onus on Grohl to reconvene the band, indicating his eagerness to resume their joint creative efforts. Them Crooked Vultures' last musical release was back in 2009, although they reunited briefly in 2022 for the tribute concert of late drummer Taylor Hawkins.
