Julia Roberts Honors Dave Matthews Band at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Julia Roberts has showcased her musical and romantic taste at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This weekend, the star of Pretty Woman took to the stage to induct one of her all-time favorite bands, the Dave Matthews Band, delivering a heartfelt tribute.
During her speech at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, Julia shared a sweet and personal memory about her marriage to husband Danny Moder.
She reminisced about their first dance together nearly 25 years ago, mentioning that the special song playing in the background was by the Dave Matthews Band. Julia described this moment fondly, saying, "The first time I ever danced with my husband was almost 25 years ago to a Dave Matthews Band song. That was a winning combination, as I have been swooning over my husband and this band ever since."
The 56-year-old actress, married to cinematographer Danny Moder since 2002, glowed as she shared this touching memory.
The audience responded enthusiastically, applauding when Julia encouraged them to "clap for swooning," perfectly capturing the emotional vibe of the evening.
Julia also expressed her family’s commitment to the band, stating, "We’re not just fans; we are lifelong fans." She went on to acknowledge the significant impact the band has had on her life, saying she felt "deeply honored" to be there inducting them.
Her heartfelt tribute was met with a standing ovation, making it one of the most memorable moments of the night. It was clear to all that Julia's connection to the band is deeply personal, mirroring her admiration for both the music and her husband.
The ceremony included other heartfelt moments from various inductees. One of the most adorable highlights was 3-year-old Ace Morris, a viral sensation who traveled from Michigan to support Kool & The Gang. Dressed in a sparkly blazer, he sang and danced to their classic hit "Celebration," charming the audience.
While many moments were filled with joy, there was also time for reflection. Cher, who was honored that evening, injected humor into her speech by revealing that recording her iconic song "Believe" was "kind of a bitch in the beginning," which elicited laughter from the crowd. Zendaya introduced Cher, wearing an outfit inspired by Cher's famous Bob Mackie designs.
Among the other emotional tributes, Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest honored his late bandmate, Phife Dawg, who passed away in 2016, showing his vulnerability as he spoke about the impact of their music.
The band accepted their honor with Phife’s family in the audience, and comedian Dave Chappelle, who inducted them, reflected on how their music revitalized his career.
This star-studded evening also featured rock legends like Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Idol. Ozzy, despite facing health challenges, made an appearance to accept an award for Foreigner, joined by actor Jack Black.
Demi Lovato and Kelly Clarkson delivered a stunning performance of Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is," leaving the audience in awe.
To close the night, Dave Matthews performed an acoustic rendition of "A Pirate Looks at Forty," paying tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett, who was inducted posthumously. His soulful performance left a lasting impact, rounding out a night full of emotion and celebration.
