Sculpture Park Hosts the 49th Annual TubaChristmas in Denver

Published December 18, 2023

The 49th installment of the much-anticipated TubaChristmas event was held in Denver's Sculpture Park, adjacent to the Denver Center of the Performing Arts, on December 17, 2023. This festive gathering marked nearly a half-century of tradition, treating attendees to an afternoon filled with the deep resonances of brass holiday music.

A Festive Ensemble of Brass

Denver's Sculpture Park came alive with the sounds of holiday classics performed by a grand assembly of tubas, euphoniums, and other low-pitched brass instruments. Hundreds of volunteer musicians from around the area participated, serenading a cheerful audience under the warmth of the winter sun. The enthusiasts of bass-notes collaboratively created a spectacular musical experience synonymous with the season's joy.

A Tradition of Heavy Metal Holiday Cheer

According to conductor Bill Clark, this extraordinary concert featured nearly two tons of 'heavy metal,' not in the genre of music, but in the weight of the brass instruments. From its modest beginnings 50 years ago at New York City's Rockefeller Center, TubaChristmas has become a cherished nationwide phenomenon. Denver's celebration has evolved alongside the national trend, migrating through various city locations as it expanded in popularity, eventually finding its current home at the Denver Center of the Performing Arts' outdoor sculpture garden.

Note: The TubaChristmas event is part of a larger series of concerts taking place across the country, promoting community spirit and musicianship during the holiday season.
