La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest 2024 to Star British Musicians
La Jolla Music Society is bringing a wave of British musical talent across the pond for its 2024 SummerFest, resembling the iconic British Invasion of the American music scene in the 1960s. The 19-concert series will run from July 26 to August 24, presenting a lineup rich with nearly 20 artists from England, including triple-threat Thomas Adès, who stands out as pianist, composer-in-residence, and conductor.
Gathering of International Musical Talent
International performers such as cellist Alisa Weilerstein, pianist Conrad Tao, clarinetist Anthony McGill, violinist Augustin Hadelich, and jazz harpist Brandee Younger complement the roster of British talents. These musicians will showcase their skills alongside esteemed British peers like Nicholas Daniel, Mark Simpson, Jack Liebeck, Sean Shibe, and the vocal group Voces8.
Thomas Adès: A Musical Jewel
Thomas Adès has distinguished himself in the previous festival and will continue to do so in a myriad of roles, marking a historic moment as the festival's first returning composer-in-residence. The thematic journey titled "Inside Stories" will delve into the narratives underpinning the musical works, with Adès' contributions being a central element. His unique talents will also include conducting the opening concert, featuring a mix of classical masterpieces and captivating narratives, like Stravinsky's L’Histoire du Soldat with paper puppetry by England's The Paper Cinema.
Fostering a Community through Music
SummerFest not only curates a diverse and stimulating musical experience but also fosters a sense of community. Musicians are accommodated by local supporters, partake in educational events, and frequently socialize together, reinforcing the festival's warm and welcoming spirit.
