Mick Jagger and Keith Richards Score Additional 2024 Grammy Nomination

Published December 1, 2023

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones are once again in the spotlight with a second nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards. This time, they've earned recognition in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category, joining the ranks of the arrangers for their reimagined classic hit "Paint It Black." Initially featured as an instrumental version in Netflix's hit series Wednesday, the song showcased a fresh classical twist to the Stones' 1966 original.

Grammy Recognition for Stones' Duo

Initially, only Esin Aydingoz, Chris Bacon, and Alana Da Fonseca were credited as arrangers for the "Paint It Black" cover when the Grammy nominations were released. However, the Recording Academy recently updated the list to include Jagger and Richards, in light of them being the original songwriters. This marks their first Grammy nomination for arranging.

Classical Vibes on a Rock Classic

The haunting instrumental version of "Paint It Black" struck a chord with audiences, playing during an iconic scene in Wednesday where the titular character masterfully performs it on a cello. This captivating adaptation contributed to the song's newfound popularity, decades after The Rolling Stones took the original to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Rolling Stones' Grammy History

Jagger and Richards are no strangers to the Grammy Awards, with this latest nomination bringing their totals to 18 and 16 respectively. Their past wins include Best Rock Album in 1995 and Best Traditional Blues Album in 2018. Additionally, the legendary duo, along with The Rolling Stones, have been honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Upcoming Tour and Ongoing Success

Fans of the iconic rock band have more to look forward to as The Rolling Stones have announced their 2024 North American tour. The tour promotes their new album Hackney Diamonds, with dates already set from Houston in April to Santa Clara in July. The band's enduring appeal is evident as tickets for their shows continue to sell.

The 66th Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 4, 2024, promising to be an eventful night for music enthusiasts, especially with The Rolling Stones' double nomination in tow.
