Published December 10, 2023

In an extraordinary display of compassion and community support, the charity concert 'He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother' (Volume 2) held at Cafe Cafe on Jalan Rubber in Kuching on December 3rd, triumphed in its mission. The event, orchestrated by a group of philanthropic individuals, successfully generated funds for several notable charitable organizations.

Community Unites for a Cause

The concert proved to be a heartwarming example of community spirit, raising an impressive RM21,000. These funds were equitably distributed, with each beneficiary group - the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), Penan Women’s Project, and Kuching Food Aid - receiving RM7,000 to support their invaluable work.

Stars Align for Charity

The event was championed by a trio of dedicated organizers: Mike Lim, Olivia Ling, and Sahil Dev, who, along with numerous local artists and musicians, offered their talents to entertain a supportive audience. The night was highlighted with 20 art pieces being sold, with half of the sale proceeds going to the trio of charities, symbolizing a harmonious fusion of artistry and altruism.

Notable performances included At Adau, an independent ethnic fusion band native to Sarawak, as well as the Zephyr Bellydancers and a myriad of musicians, each bringing their unique flavor to the stage. Local legend Michael King and the young dance prodigy Dion Das also left an indelible mark on attendees with their captivating performances.

In the Spirit of Sarawak

Poh Guan Huat, the event's chief operations officer, spoke with pride about the success of the event and its embodiment of the true Sarawakian spirit—a collective effort transcending backgrounds to aid the less fortunate. The success has spurred hopes for future events, furthering the impact on society one step at a time.

The successful execution and outcome of the event stand as a testament to the organizing committee's hard work and dedication, paving the way for subsequent editions to follow. The spirit of teamwork and societal change shines through with promises to continue the tradition in 2024.
