When the calendar flips to a new year, it is a time not only for celebration but also for recognizing outstanding contributions to various fields. This is epitomized in the United Kingdom's New Year Honours list, where distinguished individuals are awarded for their service across numerous industries. The 2024 edition has brought to light some notable figures in the music industry whose impact has earned them prestigious accolades.

Selina Webb and Her Esteemed MBE

Selina Webb, who has been a pivotal force at Universal Music UK for over two decades, has been granted an MBE — or Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire — for her wide-ranging services to music, neurodiversity, and charitable efforts. Racking up 25 years of experience, Webb started her illustrious career at Universal Music UK in 1998, climbing the ranks from Director of Press at Polydor Records to her current role as Executive Vice President (EVP).

Under her supervision, the company has launched initiatives focusing on well-being and embracing neurodiversity, showcasing her commitment to creating a more inclusive industry. Ms. Webb's distinguished accomplishments include overseeing the program for the BRIT Awards in 2021, amid the pandemic, ensuring an event that was memorable and safe for attendees. Such efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues like David Joseph, CEO of Universal Music UK, and Sir Lucian Grainge, CEO and Chairman of Universal Music Group.

Carla Marie Williams and Her Celebrated MBE

Carla Marie Williams, a prolific songwriter and the CEO and founder of Girls I Rate, received her MBE for her contributions to music. Williams has penned hit songs for global superstars such as Beyoncé and Britney Spears and has been recognized with Grammy nominations. Her initiative, Girls I Rate, has been pivotal in offering support and opportunities for young women in the music and entertainment sectors since 2016.
