St. Andrew's United Church Hosts 'Into the Moonlight' Themed Concert

Published March 19, 2024

The upcoming Saturdays at 7 concert series at St. Andrew's United Church in Chatham is set to offer attendees an enchanting evening with 'Into the Moonlight', an event dedicated to the beauty of the night. Music enthusiasts and community members alike are invited to experience a collection of night-themed musical performances this weekend. Expertly arranged and directed by Devon Hansen, the concert will showcase an array of classic melodies and modern compositions that pay homage to the mystique of the night sky.

Highlights of the Evening

Among the selections are timeless tunes such as 'Moon River' and 'Blue Moon', as well as contemporary pieces like 'Sure on This Shining Night' and 'Stars and the Moon'. The talent on stage will come from local performers including Paige Kiosk, Georgia Craven, Victoria Kimmerly, and Nohl Egan, with unexpected guest appearances adding to the excitement of the night.

A Premiere Performance

The event will also feature a standout performance of Howard Goodall's 'Eternal Light: A Requiem'. This remarkable composition, to be presented by choir, soloists, and chamber orchestra, marks a first for the Chatham-Kent region. Goodall, a renowned English composer celebrated for his works in musicals, choral music, and television, combines traditional Latin texts with modern poetry in this 21st-century requiem. The piece even includes poignant words from John McCrae’s famous war poem, 'In Flanders Fields'.

The Saturdays at 7 concert series continuously presents a variety of themes and special guests throughout its seasonal run. 'Into the Moonlight' adds to this rich tapestry of musical exploration by shining a light on compositions inspired by night-time reverie.

Those interested in attending are welcome to join at 6:30 pm when doors open. A suggested donation of $20 per person at the door supports the church’s dedication to ongoing music programming.
