Paula Jones to Spread Hope with Gospel Performance

Published December 10, 2023

The gifted gospel vocalist Paula Jones is set to inspire hope with a performance titled “Paula Jones Sings Gospel: A Message of Hope”. This uplifting event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m., inviting the community to the Morris Graves Museum of Art at 636 F St., Eureka.

A Stellar Ensemble of Talent

Accompanying Jones, the rotunda of the Morris Graves Museum will echo with the harmonies of the Eureka Pentecostal Church Choir, under the guidance of Boston’s own DJ McLean. Adding to the ensemble will be the Praise Dancers, alongside a talented group of local musicians and vocalists. These include Lorenza Phillips, Tiphain, Zera Starchild, Yacouba Diarra, Jonathan McDonald, Jeff Thomas, and reggae veteran Madi Simmons. Providing musical accompaniment will be guitarist Jeff Smoller, pianist Greg Frost, and trombonist James Zeller.

The Rich Musical Journey of Paula Jones

Since her early days performing with her five sisters at their father Rev. Asbury Paul Jones' New Hope Baptist Church in Sacramento, Paula Jones has fostered a profound connection with music. At just 11 years old, she ventured into musical theater and later led her own band in Sacramento, making a mark with her original music appearing in the film “Rumble Fish.” Jones' talent has shone as a premier soloist for the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir and even in a PBS concert special. Her unique style weaves together the soulful power of gospel, the inventiveness of jazz, and the pulsing beats of R&B, captivating her audiences with every performance.

Audience members at the upcoming performance can anticipate an immersive experience characterized by elegant performers, dynamic movement, expressive dance, and a profound sense of spirituality and thankfulness. Paula Jones herself describes the event as an occasion to “gather in love and hope and have a wonderful ‘Hallelujah time’.”

For those seeking to attend, admission is modestly priced at $5 for adults. Seniors aged 65 and above, military veterans, and students with ID can enjoy the concert for $2. Children aged 17 and under, families showing an EBT card with valid ID, and museum members will be welcomed without charge.
