Carnegie Hall Announces 'Nuestros Sonidos' Festival for 2024-25 Season Celebrating Latin Music

Published February 7, 2024

For its 2024-25 season, Carnegie Hall will present a vibrant festival dedicated to the richness of Latin music, aptly named 'Nuestros Sonidos' (Our Sounds). This cultural celebration is set to begin on October 8.

Season Opening with Gustavo Dudamel

The festival and the season will be launched by the esteemed Gustavo Dudamel, who will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The inaugural concert features a captivating lineup including Lang Lang performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Gustavo Castillo interpreting Ginastera’s ballet 'Estancia'. During the three-concert series, audiences will also experience the world premiere of a piece by Gabriela Ortiz, a performance embellished by the narration of Spanish actress María Valverde, and a concert featuring the acclaimed Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade.

A Festival Spanning New York City

The announcement of this Latin music festival features twelve concerts, with the promise of more events to enrich the schedule across New York City. This festival follows in the footsteps of past Carnegie Hall series like 'Honor: A Celebration of the African American Cultural Legacy', 'Ubuntu: Music and Arts of South Africa', and 'Afrofuturism', as well as an earlier focus on Latin American voices in the 2011-12 season. Carnegie Executive Director Clive Gillinson highlighted the need to bring Latin music to the forefront, recognizing its significant yet underrepresented role in American culture and music history.

Additional Season Highlights

The 2024-25 season won't just be about Latin sounds; it also boasts high-profile performances from the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko's baton, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Riccardo Muti, and multiple concerts from the Vienna Philharmonic starting February 28. The London Symphony Orchestra, with new chief conductor Antonio Pappano, will grace Carnegie Hall for the first time in two decades. Moreover, the season will witness a fascinating recital by pianist Igor Levit and an extraordinary performance by soprano Asmik Grigorian with the Cleveland Orchestra.

The upcoming season, which maintains a robust schedule of around 170 events, reassures the hall’s commitment to excellence and the exploration of a diverse range of musical traditions, celebrating the inexhaustible spirit of music.
