Harmonious Celebration at Golden Square Freedom Park

The heart of The City buzzed with festive energy as Golden Square Freedom Park became a haven of musical celebration for people of all ages. Both performers and concertgoers spanning generations gathered for a night of delightful entertainment at the Barbados Association of Retired Persons' (BARP) fifth annual Christmas concert, titled Bringin' It Home.

Musical Acts Across the Ages

The event opened with the Christ Church Foundation School Steel Orchestra, led by Lowrey Worrell, whose NIFCA gold-winning performances mesmerized the audience. They played a varied set, including local hits and traditional Christmas carols, culminating in a standing ovation.

The Barbados Police Service Band, directed by Senior Superintendent Andrew Lynch, brought a novel spin to classic carols with a mix of big band, reggae, and funk styles. Their own vocalists shone brightly, delivering heartwarming Christmas songs.

Adding to the excitement, the renowned Biggie Irie invited the audience to get up and dance with his blend of Christmas melodies and lively soca tunes.

Not to be outdone, RPB (Red Plastic Bag), a favorite in the BARP community, energized fans with his performance, leading to an impromptu dance session by the Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey.

Elegance and Advocacy Grace the Stage

The elegance of ballroom dancing was also on display with Ken Farrell and Margaret Brandford gracefully proving that talent truly knows no age. Their dance routines added a touch of class to the evening's entertainment.

BARP President Marilyn Rice-Bowen took the opportunity to advocate for the respect and care of senior citizens, emphasizing their contributions to society and the need for compassion, especially during the festive season.

Generosity and Joy Fill the Evening

The concert not only featured fantastic performances but also included giveaways of hams, bringing joy to several lucky individuals in the audience. The event was compered by Jennifer Walker, whose humor perfectly complemented the evening's mood.

Reaching a wider audience, the concert was also available via a live stream on YouTube, ensuring that the magic of the night was shared far and wide.
